Yes, especially because of the patent trolling that goes on now. Basically when an independent inventor invents something, and files a patent for it, an envious corporation will often sue him claiming that his patent should be void because they have patents for something vaguely similar. Then the inventor, rather than being able to spend his time improving his design and selling it, or coming up with new ideas, instead spends every second preparing for all the court trials he has to attend. The corporations just keep doing this until he goes bankrupt. Some people have gone insane over this constant harrassment.
