When a singular company has the right towards a certain thing or a certain way of doing anything, it makes it so no one else will ever be able to truly do it better Imo. For example, printers. They are complete horseshit, yet no one can do anything about that due to patents.

Fun story: Volvo invented the modern three-point seatbelt back in 1959. They could have patented that design and made a shit ton of money selling cars, but they choose not to, because they thought saving lives was more important than money.
No, 100% no. The alternative is that barely anyone invents anything because they know that some Chinese company is just gunna copy it and undercut them, forcing them out of buissness.
Yes, especially because of the patent trolling that goes on now. Basically when an independent inventor invents something, and files a patent for it, an envious corporation will often sue him claiming that his patent should be void because they have patents for something vaguely similar. Then the inventor, rather than being able to spend his time improving his design and selling it, or coming up with new ideas, instead spends every second preparing for all the court trials he has to attend. The corporations just keep doing this until he goes bankrupt. Some people have gone insane over this constant harrassment.
I’m 50/50 especially at a time when people want to patent the coronavirus vaccine which is very worrying and extremely annoying,we are literally running against time in preventing mutations of a virus that could literally destabilize the world for several years and all some greedy assholes are thinking about is how to protect their intellectual property,even if a country completely vaccinates it’s entire population and others are unsuccessful there’s a risk a slight mutation could make those vaccinations useless,I heard bill gates defending those companies and frankly speaking this is the second time I’ve heard him saying something medically I think he got totally wrong,so yes and no I support patent rights to an extent but certainly not for vaccines during a pandemic when there’s a shortage of vaccines and time is running against preventing mutations
When first implemented, copyright and trademarks served to encourage new ideas, by allowing a small period of time in which said ideas could not be replicated (about 20 years). Companies decided that this isn't good enough and now the system is messed up to the point that it is today. It completely defeats its original purpose as companies like Disney can just continuously profit off of decades old ideas.
In many ways, for sure, but without them there would be less incentive for inventors, which would also hinder progress.
