You can be as technical as you'd like, it doesn't make you "right" in your judgment.
Prostitution is illegal. Working as an adult entertainer, is not. It's very simple. The dynamics and politics can be debated all day, at the end of this, the result is the same. Men and women who perform in pornography make income, legally, a "star" will attain more, not solely preforming sexual acts. I know two different people who have worked in the industry; one was not a porn "star", he did a couple tryout videos with a company and was not up to par, in performance and likeability, he did not make it.
The second friend, he's an actual porn star, with a long term contract with a reputable company, he lives incredibly well, in NY. He doesn't just solely perform, he has products in novelty stores, modeling contracts (with clothing companies) paid appearances, and what I respect most, is he became a director. After all of the awards and "fast life" fun, he turned into an entrepreneur and made a small empire, with his likeness. He's well off, pays his taxes and can say he worked hard, to attain stability. His case was fairytale, the best that can happen. Not everyone reaches this, but in no way, ever, would I consider him a prostitute. Only someone who doesn't understand the industry, or how porn really works, would compare the two.
Prostituting is not just a term for sex trade, it is the act and how it came to fruition, illegally, tax-free and prostitution is entirely different, than what a pornographer endures. Prostitutes accept money, in exchange for sex, Jon's pay that money in exchange for sex, this is "under the table", immoral in law, dangerous and unfiltered with no one accounting. In places such as Las Vegas, Nevada, there is the Bunny Ranch. Brothel. That is legal, there is accountability for the income, payout, taxes, safety and security. That is prostitution, sure, a pornographic film is a production. It's not the same, it's similar, from an outside perspective. Having sat around on set, the entire night, while X was working, I know the difference.
If you deem pornstars this, because of the technical aspect and definition, you better call men and women, who engage in relationships with the wealthy, this too. Because in this belief system, they exchange sex and their lives, for money.
It is never going to affect your life, move on. You should put your energy into something that actually matters in your life. Debating what porn stars/ prostitution "are/is", is hilarious! look in the mirror while you type, it'll definitely alarm you and possibly give you a much needed revelation.
Go mow the lawn.
If we look at the definition (that is the meaning of prostitute not only in technical way, but also in real life), then my argument is valid.
I did not say anything about prostitution. Prostitution is not illegal in all countries. I did not say their income is illegal. Your friend may live incredibly well or may become entrepreneur, or one day he may be the richest man. But it is also important to take into account how he came to this point. When he thinks about his life, he always should remember that once he was selling his body. For most honourable people the important thing is not the amount of money they make; it is to make that money in honourable and honest way.
Not like prostitution, in porn industry they may pay taxes and it may not be illegal. But these do not change the fact that people in porn industry sell their bodies for money and if a person sells his/her body for money, they s/he is a prostitute. Therefore all people in porn industry are prostitute.
Debating and sharing knowledge are what matters in my life and that is why I put energy into it. If you think it is hilarious, then do not reply...
I tend to agree with your definition of prostitution, but it's not like it really matters to me. I wouldn't engage somebody in any part of the sex trade industry in a debate on this subject because it doesn't matter to me and I wouldn't want to disrespect them by putting them down and making them feel bad.
I know most people on here probably don't want to hear anything about God, but I try to treat people with kindness and respect and brotherly love, like Jesus did. He didn't put anybody down, except the Scribes and Pharisees because they thought they were BETTER than everybody else.
Do you think "model", "porn star", and prostitute are the same?
