Do you think is it normal changed?

Isitnormal.com used to be a place where people can express their abnormalities and not be judged by it, but instead, people mock and insult them because they are different...

Actually I think things are much better than they were in the past, overall. More people are getting advice and helping each other and the quality of the content has certainly improved over the years.

However, a few current users have taken it upon themselves to try to police the site by telling everyone else how dumb they are, or accusing them of being fake, or unoriginal. I think that after being on the site for a long time, they get bored with the content on it, which very naturally touches on similar topics over time, and instead of just skipping over things they don't like they satisfy their boredom with insults and mischief. This is also a big reason for the over 18 rule, as adults dont tend to do this as much.

This phenomenon also didn't exist in the early years because everything was still new and it was harder to get bored with the content on the site. Anyone that's been a member for years will naturally look back on the early days as more fun and interesting, just because it was fresh, but trust me, the site had a ton more junk on it back then. I've been trying to give long term members more ways to hang out without being disruptive to the regular flow of q&a by newer members, such as the chat room (the amount of totally off topic banter happening in comment threads before the chat room was really a big problem) and polls (these greatly increased the variety of topics that we can discuss on IIN). I'm not sure what the next thing along those lines should be, still brainstorming there (very open to ideas).

As for the general demeanor and attitude of the comments of the site, it's up to the regulars who do a large chunk of the commenting and voting to set the example for others to follow. This overall attitude fluctuates over time based on who happens to be most active and how nice or mean they happen to be. This constantly ebbs and flows. At the moment, I'll just say that IIN could use another dappled...

Regarding your second paragraph, I hope I'm not doing that. I know I'm not as nice/helpful as I should be sometimes, and sometimes I tend to joke around instead of answering the question seriously. Hearing responses like this one always makes me question my actions on this site. I am wondering, is the karma system still in the works? I think It would be interesting to know how well I do with my comments somehow, and what I might could do to improve them and my overall tactics.

About the next thing on this site, what if IIN had some kind of (simple) gaming section? Or an art section maybe? Or a poetry section? I'm not really sure how well any of those would do on here though... What about a dedicated section for users to collaborate on how good or bad a potential idea might be? A "potential improvements" section or something. Those are about all I can think of for now.

I know I will regret this.... But it must be done.

Being a member since.. 2006 or so, I can certainly say this site has changed,And I do not remember one time where you can post a serious question, and get a legit earnest answer. Maybe a few members did, But most of us are sarcastic, vulgar people. And trolls. People, If you actually get offended or take any of the things these people say to heart, Then IIN is NOT for you. Trolls always have been, and always will be. Also, We may rag on each other but we dont ever really mean it. Like ive said to other members, We are a big dysfunctional family. And in the end do truly care what you have too say.

  • I agree with both aussie and NotFloydzie.

As I type this, I've got some form of internet warrior on IIN harrassing me and it is harrassment, since I've 1. asked him to stop. 2. Barely insulted him but he calls me a dick. And finally, 3. Can't even respect my right to my opinion and the fact it differs from his.

IIN seemed to be a nicer place when I was around 3 years ago on my old account. Now it's full of accunts. Half joking, half serious.

Of course this place has changed.

The place was ridden with trolls that scared alot of the earlier IIN members who actually contributed leaving the place. I considered leaving when those twats from 4chan invaded years back but thanks to a couple of members like Cody and Jay - I kept my sanity and stayed.

  • I've actually changed my opinion now. I think I'm going to leave for a while again. I just don't like this site much anymore, it's full of troll stories and comments.

I don't mind the occasional giggle but too much is getting too much. So thanks to everyone who actually cared/understood me. :)

    • And I thought I would do one last check in before going on vacation. To find my comments are being deleted. Well, that solidifies my decision. Thanks again everyone who cared and stuff but I don't like this site much anymore.

It's can be difficult sometimes to tell when some are being honest though, the obvious fake ones I think it's fair to have a bit of fun with, the borderline I just ignore.

it has always been like that. in fact it used to be a lot worse so it has changed to a place where more weirdos can feel safe about molesting their pets or having sex with their family. kinda sad really.

  • I'm only deleting the comments with dappled because my friend told me not to start a post with dappled.

  • I can't believe how popular this is! Thanks for the comments, BTW. The point I'm trying to make is, there's a difference between constructive criticism and calling them a freak or asshole.

  • Can we stop talking about dappled. this post has nothing to do with him/her/whatever.

The more popular a site is, the more trolls are drawn to it.

There seems to be an awful lot of trolling.

I had an account here a couple of years ago. Now I have come back and I think it still has what I loved about it. There are very good people who will help you and give you advice, but as in any other place in the internet realm, trolls are bound to troll. I just tend to ignore them and hide their messages in the posts I make.
