Do you think colleges should lower their costs or keep the costs of the physical college, and post free online courses for those who cannot afford it or cannot travel to that particular school? Tell me your thoughts on this.
college is a big scam. wht do u do? u go several years, pays shitsloads of money to get a degree to get an ok paying job to support most likey a family with children who u will subsequently put through college nd they will do the same thing and the cycle continues...i hate college but its so damn hard to do anything and make it anywhere without a degree..
and heaven forbid u don't major in business, engineering, or nursing, u have another plethora of problems to deal with on top of that.
exactly,and there is nothing wrong with that. some people just aren't wired for OR simply aren't interested in a degree pertining to mathematics.<BR><BR>i suggest that u go to a school specifically for hairstyling though, save a ton of money and time and u can creat a professional career for yourself in a more appealing manor in regards to ur interests
thats why i always get confused when schools push math and science when half of those kids won't even need that for their future career. kudos to those who do, but don't force it on someone who can't do it/doesn't need it. i love science and math, but i won't need it unless i plan on producing my own products in the beauty industry.

College, I believe, was meant to be selective - so that the most brilliant and dedicated minds can specialize themselves to improve people as a whole. It was never meant for everyone.
In fact, it asks for a rare combination of dedication, patience, willpower, the desire to become educated, and a high capacity for learning. This way, the best of the best have the chance to do what they love.
I agree that individual success does not require a college education. No problems with that. This is because life's happiness and successes are just as unique as the person experiencing them - no two ideas are the same. One person might think success is a modest home on a median income. Another may think success is surviving another day. Some may even think success is simply living happily, which has several meanings as well.
Generally, the point I'm bringing is that success doesn't have to equal wealthiness or official documents. Don't worry about college if you feel it's not worth it. It's more important to find what you love doing most - and sometimes to leave the heartache for those most willing to take it.
Such as sports. There are tons of colleges who put a lot of emphasis on their sports when that's not the college's main goal. For instance, a college that focuses on science and engineering should cut the sports so it's not as expensive to buy lab equipment, etc...
And it's also ridiculous the costs of textbooks. Paying nearly 30 bucks for one book is going over the top.
Are you aware how much money sports bring to major schools? I don't think it increases the cost of admission.
Textbook costs aren't really related to the school either. Books are expensive to produce so the cost can't really be lowered.

Someone said it above I just cant remember who it was, but college's are just another scam that was created under the guise of being "needed" for success, also as being non-profit. Let me tell you there is nothing not-for-profit when it comes to college. To some degree it is needed as you wont be taken seriously at all for a job unless you have that piece of paper, but almost nothing you learn in HS or college will have any bearing in most of what you find yourself doing for a "career". If you are going to college thinking you are setting yourself up for future success you will be sadly disappointed when you graduate. The real world operates on the tenet of who you know, not what you know.
Its amazing how the older you get the most you see just how many scams there are in the world, from government, to non-profit, to lemonade stand on the corner.
Scholarships and Grants are the answers. I don't think they'll give a damn for "FREE Online Courses" cause it still uses money. Study the different scholarship programs offered to the college you want, it might help you. There are small things that you have to seek in order to achieve BIG TIME Success! Colleges won't advertise scholarships and grants to the extent, usually they'll just give a hint or an intro about it.
It depends. For instance, I wanted to go to MICA, but my family had a flip out over the cost. They said it was "racist", because of the price. But to me, the price is that way because it is one of the top Art Schools in the world. I've sense given up on wanting to go there. If I got a scholarship, which I high doubt, it probably wouldn't pay for all expenses.
I think it's a shame that the majority of people don't have the money and probably will miss out on the benefits of the college. I'd much rather go to Canada or Europe for my art:)
My boyfriend really wanted to go to mica. He draws, and he's pretty amazing. I think he was on his way to getting a scholarship back when we were in highschool, but I guess he didn't know how to prioritize(still doesn't) so he slacked off. Because of that, he's kind of ceased drawing :(. It's sad because he loved doing it and was great at it but now he just spends his free time pissing me off instead of picking up a damn pencil. Smh.
Well the thing is, some people believe four year colleges are just better and community colleges are lacking, while some disagree. It all depends on who the person is, but as far as the programs go, I think four years are better because they have more to offer. But since I had ridiculous prerequisites to get through, I got them out of the way at community and it was SO much cheaper.
