Nah. religion and mainly Christianity is responsible for the creation of the world's greatest nations (like the USA). Its principles and morals helped building them. A world without it probably wouldn't have sustained. It's easy to realize that just by looking at nations who have succeeded and nations who have failed. And no matter if it also brought wars, if it wasn't for America, American Indians would still be worshipping the sun and kill each other using arrows.
So getting rid of religion will not solve your problems. Chances are people are going to take the word "freedom" too literally and will not get anything done, that's how it usually works.
Also, I would rather everyone to be equal under one imaginary being, rather than under a tyrannical government ;) But that's just my opinion :p
Uhm. Hate to break it to you but the Natives Americans had religion. Many different religions. And if it wasn't for the European invaders that later became Americans their mostly peaceful people would still be the great cultures they once were.
