I don't think ANYONE especially children need to be taking antidepressants at all. They caused me serious hypertension and a decreased capacity of intellect. I think it is a fallacy that people need antidepressants. We have evolved greatly without any medication warping our minds. We have lived thousands of years without them and we should continue that path. Most antidepressants and medications are synthesized in some laboratory and not even tested or approved. http://cchr.org for more information.
Without the intervention of my then psychiatrist and his prescribing me Fluoxetine, I would be dead by now and I'm not being overdramatic either.
Some people are strong enough to survive without anti-depressants but I wasn't and I'm glad to be here today. And just because they caused a certain effect on you, doesn't equate to them having the same effect on everyone else.
I started taking anti-depression at the age of 15, and over the years my amount of pills has more than doubled. I also get a bit for sleeping on, and when I get a nervous breakdown I get some anti-psychotic. And I can tell you, that I have never been happier. I tried to kill my self twice, before they gave me pills, and a month after, I felt a bit of happiness for the first time in years.
Of course, I have been questioning if the drugs have changed who I am, but my parents tell me that I am more like I were before I got depressed. The pills didn't alter my mind or anything, they just put a lid on all my feelings. So yeah, you can question if children should /need/ medication at all, but you can't question my recovery. It's all real!
Do you take medication?

Without antidepressants I would never have done anything with my life and chances are very, very high that I wouldn't even be alive.

same here!
Same here. I love when people judge people who are afflicted with something they are not.
I couldn't even leave my house before I got on SSRIs.
