Since the advent of DNA technology, scores of people , mostly blqck males have been freed for being falsely convicted of capital crimes underscoring again and again the blatant mistakes and fallibility of the American Judicial System.
The Judicial System also favors the wealthy over the poor...the wealthy get to file motions, have expert witnesses, and legal and procedural hearings while the poor get a public defender with a day job...whats the result? The overwhelming majority of prisoners are poor but not necessarily guilty.
In the USA blacks have made up the overwhelming majority of people who are executed in this country , also certain states like Florida and Texas execute people at disproportionately higher rates than anywhere else....so what does this show? The unfairness and bias of the whole Justice System ..why should what color you are, how much money you have and where you live have to do with guilt , innocence or life and death?
In no states that have it has any reduction in violent crimes ever been linked to capital punishment.
With the whole appeal process which drags on for years, millions end up being spent on capital crime cases, way more than the costs of incarceration.
How does a society teach that killing someone is wrong if they kill someone?
