But without your sight your perception of what it is to exist would be quite different. You would be deprived of large portion of what makes life so majestic.
I can't imagine what it would be like to wake up every morning and not see the LA skyline, to take the train to work and not observe the diverse existence of other people, to not be able to appreciate a longer drive on a scenic route, to not experience any visual aesthetic of any kind. Perhaps I'm being too anecdotal.
It's definitely true that I would miss a lot. There is plenty of visual beauty in my everyday life too; I love the rolling green hills around the house where I live with my parents, and I love the sights of the city where I live with my friends.
I chose blindness because I felt like I had eliminated everything else first. The rawness of spoken-word communication was too important to me to choose muteness or deafness, and full-body paralysis would take too much of my independence.
I am almost certainly undervaluing sight to some degree, which is probably a sign that I don't use it enough (funny as that may sound). Too much looking at screens and the insides of four walls, not enough looking at the real world and the people I love. Stuck Inside At Summer Syndrome.
Do you prefer to be blind, deaf, mute, deaf-mute, or body-paralyzed???
