Until I saw this post, I had no idea rota wasn't a word that travelled. I wonder if that means we only started using it recently (although it's a Latin word).
Hmm, maybe it's even local to my part of the country. We've always said it in my family. There used to be a washing-up rota when I was a kid to see who did the dishes.
Now I wonder if the OP is from the same part of the same country as me. Hmmm...
