I love both but DEATH METAL FTW! Swedish death metal is the best. I love Dismember, Bloodbath, Grave, Unleashed etc :D
Black people are cooler than dead people, dead black people make my feel weird. PS I don't know what the fuck either of those are!
I love all metal \m/>_<\m/ it's all I listen to. I don't like Rap, Country, Hip Hop, R & B, Bluegrass, ect. I'm a metal head lol
both also like goth punk bluse jazz funk soul 50s and 60s reggae some early country techo some alt rap and some other random stuff like westly willis
Black metal for sure. But anything with a lot of melody is my preferred sound. Mole-death, Melodic Black, Melodic Metalcore. In Flames, At the Gates, For Today, and Killswitch will always flood my playlist.
None of those are Black, those are forms of Death. In Flames is technical Death, At The Gates is Melodic Death, Killswitch Engage is "Metalcore" which, technically, doesn't exist since the premise of "Metalcore" is Death and Hardcore mixed but Death has always had a strong Hardcore influence. So I guess Killswitch is more Alt Metal like Avenged Sevenfold or later Metalica. Long story short if you like them you should check out Zao, the first band to be called "Metalcore" and see if you like them.
Dude, the vocals are different…the whole style of each genre is totally different from each other. A lot of the popular black metal bands also blend in some death metal elements, but straight-up death metal is quite different from straight-up black metal. Like I said, the vocals are more often shrieked or screamed in black metal as opposed to in death metal where the vocals are more often lower-pitched and grunted or growled, for example.
Yeah I actually have a big big hard bound book on black metal. its like a professional photographers book. very very good pictures. explains the timelines of the bands that made impacts on the music scene. the black metal bands had totally rebelled like punk bands did before that. the whole metal world in general is very fascinating. i listen to some other stuff too but metal is my main squeeze.
Neither. Both are absolutely apalling, and NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING will make me like it. I have also not the faintest idea how they are different.
Also, the option "I don't like metal" is fucking retarded, because that obvious refers to ALL metal. I like prog metal, and new wave metal, so I can't choose that option either. So I had to choose "other". God, think first before you submit polls.
What is 'new wave metal'? Devo meets Black Sabbath? I didn't create this poll for you specifically, think first before you comment. Also you admitted to being ignorant about these genres [you can't tell them apart], so why bother answering the poll anyway?
That's a hard choice. It depends on the band. My favorite is when they mix the 2 styles together.
Leviathan, Dark Funeral, Defeated Sanity. All sorts of Black and Death metal
some black metal is great, but all in all death metal is more complex in its construction
Black metal. I prefer it because it seems to have much more substance than DM, which is more trendy and theatrical (although BM is guilty of this as well).
BTW, the difference between the two is very clear - just look it up.

Black metal is the shit. I like ambient and DSBM A LOT. I also like the blends like blackened doom and blackgaze. My favorite bands are Xasthur, MayheM, Burzum, Paysage d'Hiver, LantlĂ´s, and Peste Noire.
Death metal seems too commercial and it's just not deep enough for me :P Cannibal Corpse is okay in some songs, but I really just can't get into it.
I like groove metal, progressive metal/rock, thrash and some hardcore.
I hate vocalists who growl, they sound like fucking retards(death metal.) Not entirely sure what black metal is.
Death metal all the way! Entombed, Carcass, Morbid Angel, Edge of Sanity, Obituary, At The Gates, Repulsive Vision, Morta Skuld, Gorguts, etc!
I prefer Black metal, and I also love Symphonic Black Metal, like Dimmu Borgir and Tvangeste. :3
i prefer death metal i like some black metal like venom Bathory hellhammer but i like death metal bands because i think the vocals sound better and i think its even abit more heavyer than black
I like most metal, but Death and Black metal are normally BORING!
It trys too hard to sound brutal and evil and whatnot, and ends up sounding dull and fake. It's like Glam Metal, only dark.
Both are awesome, I prefer death metal, but there is Blackened death metal (Behemoth-Slaves shall serve) and blackened thrash metal (Toxic Holocaust- Endless Armageddon and Nuke The Cross are good songs to try)
Too depressing. I like to be happy, even if the world is falling into the abyss
I actually prefer extreme and death metal; hardcore punk will forever remain my favorite; but I'm the type of gal that loves to kick back and relax to Dimmu Borgir, Suicide Silence, Cradle of Filth, and Children of Bodom, as well :] But the frakken banshee screeches with DaniFilth become naseuating after extended periods of time.
I guess I also prefer the vocal style of death metal. I prefer the low-pitched vocals as opposed to black metal which features more high-pitched screaming.
I'm not really sure why. My taste has always just naturally leaned more toward death metal than black metal.
