that it. does your work make you happy or miserable?
Quality of life is so much more important than the amount of money you make.
If you can live well on the money you make from a job you can't wait to get to each morning, then you are far and away better off that the richest of men.
Every single rich man I've met, has had to spend so much of his time tending his money and possessions, that even on vacation, on his multimillion dollar yacht, with his beautiful trophy wife, they can never relax and enjoy themselves. It seems their only real pleasure in life is making the money, not spending it.
No, it's OK - for now.
What's scary is the prospect of never finding anything better :/
That said, it's probably because of unrealistic expectations instilled in us during childhood that we all think we can find our 'dream job', a job that we enjoy and feel fulfilled by every single day.
Your whole goal in life is to do just that, the pursuit of happiness my friend.
We all have the right to find what makes us happy. Our founding fathers knew this to be so important that they put it in the CONSTITUTION, the document which defines America.
How can any of you seriously be okay not having a career that fulfills just that right? We are in the promise-land, go out and get it.
My goal in life is contentment, which is distinct from happiness.
I don't expect to be happy all the time, or sad all the time, I want to find a comfortable situation where I can pursue my passions whilst living sustainably. The ideal would be that the passions would sustain themselves - but most people don't get to make a living from what they LOVE doing.
That's not to say we shouldn't aspire for that. But we also shouldn't expect it. It isn't owed to us, it's something rare and difficult to achieve.
Also, your founding fathers are not my founding fathers. Your constitution is not my constitution. I am not in 'the promise-land'. Remember, not everybody on IIN is from the US of A :P
I really like my job and I hope to stay there for as long as possible.
I dislike the judgmental idiots that always ask me:
"Are you ever going to find a career?"
"You've been here for so long. Don't you think it's time you get a job that pays more?"
"You have an awful job. You should get a better one to secure your future."
