English is not my native language, but I only like songs in English. I can't stand songs in my native language, they all seem to sound so lame. I do like many bands of my country, but I only like them if they sing in English. You get the point. I often wonder how it is for someone whose native language is English, to listen to all these English songs. Doesn't it sound weird to you? Let me know! :)
I love traditional Russian music. Back in the days, my grandmother used to play The Internationale on her gramophone, and together we would throw Molotov cocktails at a wall painted with the American flag. When we ran out of Molotov cocktails she would take me down to the store, and we would sit infront of the big statue of comrade Lenin and eat pickled gherkins out of a big glass jar. I loved my grandmother.
Where do you come from?... I'm from Denmark, and we got a bunch of (Specially artists that were highly popular in the 70's 80's) they sing in danish.. And well, it's wonderfull music and singing.
I do mostly listen to bands & artits where they sing in English FYI :).
i totally feel you man ! i'm flemish aswell it's just that since most people living in flanders speak with some kinds of dialect singing in clean dutch sounds kind of fake and lame and singing with a dialect just sounds terrible... i do like dutch hiphop though and yeah i can't take it seriously either i feel you man alot of flemish singers are egocentral douchebags too the only thing we have is good dj's (at least germany is worse than us (rammstein n shit)
*Secret identity revealed* Yes that's so true! The dialects can be really bad, like Flip Kowlier, his songs are just ridiculous :P. And clean dutch indeed sounds fake, it's not how we talk. I personally don't like dutch hiphop, but hiphop is not my style :). And again, you're right, a lot of egocentral douchebags here. I really can't stand Tom Barman, he's such a jerk. Haha, and I also don't like Rammstein but I must admit that's the only German band I know. Except for Tokio Hotel, but hey, let's not call that a band.
I love to listen to German music.. and Spanish music... really anything, but I'm also going to school to be a linguist so it makes sense. However, I know an old exchange student who only liked music in English because her native language was too boring sounding. I think it's perfectly normal.
For some reason I can't get into music if I can't understand the lyrics or if it's instramental. Explosions in the sky are a good example I like the music but I get bored without vocals and there have been bands from other countries that I can't get into because I want to be able to get the purpose of the song or album, especially if it's a concept album
I'm not familiar with enough music in other languages than English to give an absolute answer here, but I do like music in English. I am certain there is good music in other languages that I would like as well if I knew what they were saying, or even a little of what they were saying. Heck, some songs might even inspire me to learn the language more if I liked them enough I think.
I do enjoy English language songs. The use of paronomasia is prevalent in alot of English songs which intrigues me to learn the language and have a better understanding.
Even watching Übersetzung/Subtitled songs that have been subtitled into my language doesn't even a proper translation or it is lost in translation when alot of paronomasia or colloquialism is in a song.
