I hate hugs when used to express casual affection. They don't make me feel anything and it doesn't even make sense...Yes, let our entire ventral surfaces briefly meet for a moment because I am glad to see you/like you. It's way too much physical contact and work for such a casual meaning of "hello there, friend!"
They are only useful and acceptable, in my opinion, in moments of seriousness, like when used to comfort someone, or tightly embrace a lover or something. Other than that...don't hug me.
It's cool others like them, but meh I don't care for them. By process of elimination I choose kisses. I would prefer a peck on the cheek as a greeting rather than a hug.
