I think they are super friendly people. They can be quite neurotic at times but I find most to be endearing. I think perhaps some take the christian thing a bit too far, but this is coming from an atheist so that's just my personal perspective. I think that in the past their government (like the George W. Bush administration) has reflected on them badly and unjustifiably on an international level.
As an Australian I'm fascinated by their culture, particularly the history of film there.
