Technically one but my middle name is my grandmother's maiden name. So I sort of count that as two because I don't have what most people deem a regular middle name.

    I have two

A fair amount of people of Dutch descendant ulitise a prefix infront of their surnames. Common ones would be "van" (from/of), "de" (the) or "der" (of the).

So let's say if we had them in English. An example would be "John of England" or John the Great", etc.

BUT if you were looking in some Dutch phonebooks for example - let's say my last name is "van Engel" - "van Engel" would appear under "Engel" not "van".

Well "Von" was once a title used by the Nobility of Germany speaking countries but now it used by the commoners today as well.

I think some people were forced to drop the "von" from their names after World war one from memory especially the former monarch and the elite when they became Republics.
