The point I'm making is this doesn't have anything to do with making your child into an accessory. It's they way children are carried worldwide by rich and poor. And the poor will gain nothing for accessorizing a child so what would the point be.
Slings/those-backpack-things/strollers are all pefectly suitable ways to carry about a small child and they love all three.
But the slings/backpacks are primarily for the very young. Typically once they can walk well on their own you would move onto a stroller since its easier for them to get up and enjoy themselves.Comment Hidden ( show )

You don't have any kids or responsibility for kids, do you?
Sling wearing is not a new thing. It is a resurfacing of an old child carrying method. Babies (particularly small ones) feel more comfortable being close to their carer. There are many benefits including aiding bonding and freeing parents/carers hands to do other things while carrying a fussy baby around.
Why put them in a stroller? That's far more like putting them in a cage. Now I agree that comparison is over the top, but if you want to get down to it, a stroller is much more restrictive.
For the record, I use both, and carry babies.
If you don't want to do it, that's your choice. But there are reasons and your reaction is uninformed at best. If you want to have a go at parents using children as accessories, there are better examples.
Link for actual proper information on benefits in sling wearing sent in reply as it often gets held back in moderation. If you have any actual evidence of the negatives, please do send.

You know what's worse. Those people who think that having a stroller gives them the right to be an inconsiderate asshole. And strollers are used as accessories more than a baby sling in my opinion. I don't even notice slings most the time. But I really can't miss the side by side strollers that barely fit down the grocery isle. Or the ones with giant wheels capable of off-roading. A yuppy with a stroller is far more annoying than a yuppy with a sling.

It's not always practical to take a stroller everywhere, and some kids don't like them and escape from them. Strollers don't work on some terrain, and some slings are designed so that the baby can see your face, which is good for them. Slings and backpacks are more practical when parents need to keep their hands free. Some children and babies prefer to be close to their parents, rather than in a stroller.
Also, I don't think babies give a shit if they look like they're being used as an accessory.
