Do you give spare change to people who ask it?

Just questioning the benevolence of you all.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • I used to, but not anymore, coz the last one i found out that asking for spare changes is their career. You think it's right to just ask for spare changes when you can use your hand to earn money?

  • Yes, and even if I think they are just going to buy booze or drugs because it is what makes them happiest in their shitty lives.

  • Depends. First, who it is that's asking me. If they're serious. And, if i have any spare change to spare.

  • I would only give money to someone who had a sign that was all decked out with lights and bedazzled and read "spent all my money on this sign."

  • I hate how some people think giving them money would make them beg more...Just another excuse to be a cheap-ass.

  • I don't since I live in New York, and that's just not an option, since there are just too many people. I do give to charity, but I just don't feel bad for brushing off someone asking me for money, since I know that the money is probably doing more good that way.

  • I don't anymore. I used to once in a while but not out of kindness, more due to being put on the spot.

Where I live I don't encounter too many people at all asking for change but I do get people asking me for a cigarette all the time. I bluntly say no, they're too expensive to give away. And it burns me up that people actually look at me like I'm being mean or even argue with me for not giving them a smoke-almost EVERY time!! They're $10 a pack for Pete's sake!!

  • Because of where I work, I get asked several times a day for spare change. I rarely carry cash but I do give them food if I happen to have snacks on me.

    • I appreciate the more honest and creative ones too!! The best one I ever saw was about 10-11 years ago near Times Square in NYC, an older black guy sitting on a crate with a money jar in front of him with a sign saying something along the lines of "Cuss me out for $1".

  • Sometimes I'm not in a good mood and don't give money, but I think I should most of the time, if not all of the time.
