If you're talking about the U.S., I'd say that if you are involved in any type of customer or public interaction then looks, as part of presence, is the most important thing. Especially for women.
Just watch anybody in the media today. They are runway model good looking. The Today Show on NBC has more beauty contest winners than journalism award winners.
I always use my looks to get ahead. I am very intelligent and good at what I do, with a lot of family connections. But my real edge is my beauty.
