Do you feel bad when you shoplift?

Do you feel guilty when you steal things from shops and how often do you do it? I only shoplift every now and again but I don't usually feel bad, though I've never taken anything really expensive.

I don't shoplift, and if I accidentally walk out the door with something I didn't pay for I go back inside, and pay for it.

I wouldn't shoplift, but on the rare occasions that something inadvertently didn't get scanned somehow... I'm not going back for it either, because... oops. I would never actually shoplift though, I'm not a thief.

That's good but wouldn't you be a bit nervous? I would be.

I've accidentally stolen low cost items from big retailers on a couple of occasions. I didn't feel bad, although I sort of felt bad for not feeling bad, if that makes sense. I felt like a hypocrite because if it'd been a small business I would have felt absolutely terrible and rushed back in there to apologise and pay for what I took, but because it was such a big business I just couldn't bring myself to care enough to go all the way back there. There's not much logic to this but it's just the way that I felt.

Nah... Multipacks of water in the bottom of my trolley, in Woolies or Coles. They only cost about $6 and a couple of times I forgot to tell the cashier they were there.

I just couldn't bring myself to give enough of a fuck to go back and pay for them.

  • Hopefully somebody breaks in your house for the thrill of it. I’m sure you wouldn’t mind.

  • Nah, man...that shit's grimy as hell. Find something better to "thrill" yourself.

  • I don't shoplift, because I'm not that kind of douchebag. Stealing is extremely unacceptable to me, whether it's being stolen from or committing the act.

I have never shoplifted, and it is never justified. A possible exception is prescription medications in the U.S. which are monopolisticly priced so that poor people who depend on them will die when their money runs out. Buy your expensive medications on-line from international suppliers in Canada, England, or Germany. Allow 5 weeks for delivery.

I used to back when my medications weren't right. I suffer from Bipolar (and ADHD) and wasn't diagnosed yet, so yeah... And no, I'm not trying to make an excuse for myself, but I wasn't thinking straight and my judgment was very much impaired. I regret ever shoplifting and haven't done it since I've gotten the proper treatment for my conditions.

I once accidentally stole a small item from a grocery store. It was under 50 cents.

I went back in to pay.

Never felt guilty but only did it for a couple of years as a teenager. This is why I don't trust teenagers.

I was once shopping for my jewelry class at a michales. I had too many things in my hands but was too lazy to get a basket, so i instinctively shoved a few in my pocket without even thinking. When I got to my car and reached in my pocket for my keys, the beads were still there. At that moment I realized how easy it was to get away with petty stealing. With that in mind, I didnt continue to do it.

One time a shop accidentally gave me 20 cent more change than they should have. I felt so guilty, I had to walk back inside and give it back.

When I use to live in my hometown(San bernodino) back in the early 2000s I was a bit of a shithead. By the time I was in junior high I would steal things not just from the stores but people to you know when people take their carts to their cars. well I'd sometimes walk by and quickly take what I wanted hell I even stole a bike once because some moron left his bike by the door and didn't chain it up. At the time I didn't feel bad about it but now that I'm older I feel guilty I think it had a lot to do with the fact that I ended up leaving my hometown when I was in the seventh grade. Ended up with my father who lives in a better area can't say that he was the reason that I stopped but I'd say that being out of San bernodino changed me and I wanted a fresh start. I wish I could go back and kick my ass for being a little shit.

I accidentally stole a bag of potatoes. I put them on the bottom rack and forgot. I didn't feel bad.

  • I don’t but I’m sure if I ever did I’d feel really shitty cause that is shitty to do.
Just get a job and buy it like a normal person.

Shoplifting is for bitches. Seriously, it's the only crime that's majority female. Good thing most businesses have figured out good ways to catch the thieves. Those who do it should have to do boring, time-consuming community service or pay fines that are triple the worth of the stolen items.

    • I am female so I’m not offended by you saying it’s mostly female.

It's just a statistical reality. The most female of all crimes is shoplifting (around 60% female), and the "most male" is child molestation (committed 98% by men). Most other crimes are between 75 to 90% male.

I don't respect the law, but shoplifting just isn't my style.

  • No, I don't really steal. I do steal my dry dog food though. It all started because one day I put the large bag of dog food under the trolley in the bars so it would not squish my other groceries. After going through the checkout and getting to my car, I realized I didn't have it scanned. Been doing this for about 15 years, I purchase a bag every 3 weeks, an 8kg bag is around $25, thats a saving of $425 every year. Thats a total saving of $6,375

Don't feel bad, I spend hundreds every week at the supermarket and ya think they are not ripping me off with shit

B&Q. I imagine a lot of companies in the US do the same; honestly, dude, I used to think it was okay to shoplift from big stores too, but the companies care about the bottom line, and they'll often push the extra costs on to people like employees and shoppers who aren't swimming in money.

          • NO, Impossible! There is strict laws on what is the lowest wage you can pay, time and a half, overtime, bla bla bla. Its not like it used to be back in the day when you could pay whatever you wanted. I'm in Australia though. Even with peace work! Lets say you are picking grapes, you are being payed $2 a bucket, you work all day and don't even fill enough buckets to make the minimum hourly wage lawfully applied for said type of work, then they have to pay you the hourly wage rather then what you actually picked, although they can fire you if most other normal people ar picking way more then you.

Ye, there's a minimum wage, but unless you're earning minimum wage then they can cut it. Bonuses aren't included in minimum wage, and even most manual/low-level labour is earning people above minimum wage. I'm pretty sure even the wage at McDonalds is above the minimum, that's how they can pass on the cost of theft to employees.

I'm like you. I won't burglarise someones house or steal from a little old lady, but I will be taxing that bottle of jim beam now under my jumper, thank you very much Dan Murphy's

I don't shoplift. Unless you count buying a case of beer, putting it on the lower rack of the shopping cart, forgetting to tell the cashier about it and then realizing I got free beer.

I don't feel bad about it. It's not like I walked away with something expensive...
