I don't get calling someone an asshole as an insult. Just seems stupid, afterall an asshole is just empty space like any other hole. Might as well avoid vulgarity and change it to doughnut hole, which amounts to the same thing. Calling someone an anal sphincter would be more relevant, as that actually refers to the muscular ring which surrounds the "asshole".
Anyway, being an ass is not so bad. Quite fun actually. Very fun.

An asshole smells and not something most people want to be around. So I think it is saying your behavior or manners are so bad it repels people.
