  • We all had uniforms when I was at school, it's the usual in Britain. Apart from the occasional mufty day (non-uniform day) we never had that problem of 'what to wear?'.

We do have odd trends relating to how you wear your uniform though; whether you tuck your shirt in, how short your tie is and sometimes how you tie it, how high your trousers are, if your blazer is buttoned up or not etc. Usually however teachers want you to wear something, you're supposed to rebel against it to fit in :P

I'm not at school now. Normally I wear clothes that I like, and what I like is inevitably influenced by everyone around me (if that weren't true I'd be naked all the time). That said, a lot of new trends coming out of the hipster sphere worn by my age-group (18-25) look fucking dumb to me. All the tight plaid shirts, the massive sunglasses, the little straw hats or trilbies, rolling up t-shirt sleeves, baggy vests, the very very tight jeans, the high-maintenance hair, the feigned metrosexuality... Basically it suggests to me people who consume everything they're fed by media with very little originality, and place too much value in 'fitting in' or looking like people that are 'in' (usually members of bands). Superficiality way above practicality and functionality. I might be more accepting if I thought they looked good haha but to me they either look boring or silly.
