I have pretty much always been the boss, since I mastered my trade. Even my employer must do as I request, or I am not doing my job properly.
So far, I have not had one serious injury or fatality, in a profession where death and injury are only seconds away at all times, so I think I have been pretty good at doing my job.
It'd be pretty silly to consider my self "boss" of a vessel on which I was the only person.
To put you at ease, though, several vessels have had crews of over 20, and one, a cruise ship, had closer to 250, plus 1500 passengers. Most however had crews of 6 to 10.
Will that do?
Do you consider yourself a good Leader or Follower?

Do you have a crew? You mentioned that there hasn't been any death on your watch so that's why I'm asking.

I guess so, your job sounds interesting and difficult.
