Yeah, I thought people were quite harsh on themselves, and then a poll popped up about how intelligent we think we are, most people clicked on the options above average.
It makes me wonder whether a lot of people genuinely have low self-esteem. It sounds harsh, but one day a friend of mine (a very pretty one at that) was complaining yet again about how ugly she was, and I decided to agree with her just to see how she'd react; she got the biggest shock, and said "thanks" sarcastically.
Somehow I doubt someone with low self-esteem would take such offence to that, because I've noticed when people do have bad self-esteem they agree with you instead of getting insulted!
Exactly. I think fishing for compliments is done all the time, just usually much more subtly. But we can't admit it, because if we did we'd have to admit that we're insecure about ourselves! People who act like they are in complete control and entirely stable are, simply put, bullshit artists. Everyone wants validation from others.
