My parents admit that they favoured my sister because she was a girl and my brother because he was the youngest. In retrospect, I wasn't really like one of their kids. I was just someone who lived there, like the dog. They let me do my own thing (in fairness to them, my brain went at a million miles an hour, and I don't think anyone could have put up with that for long). I've always existed pretty much independently of my family to the point where nowadays I don't really have a family.
Whether that's because of favouritism or some failing in myself, who knows? It's a complicated situation.
Do you believe your parents have a "favorite" kid?
