She's a metaphor for nature's actions, you shouldn't take it so seriously, and she's not a Goddess in a religious standpoint. She's a Deity (i.e. she's a Goddess with no religion, till she envelops a religion she can't be a Goddess). Sorry I just went all Theological on your question, but I'm trying to give a more realistic aspect to your question. Not saying you should think a god (catholic or not) runs the Earth, honestly it's hard giving you an answer seeing I'm an atheist. But believe what you want for your preferred aspect.
