I'm conflicted on this issue. I've witnessed it being used inconsistently and sometimes the punishment does not exactly match the offense. As a result, the kid never really learns anything and retains the same undesirable behavior. But when corporal punishment was used, it was with great force, bringing about resentment towards the parent. I mean, there are kids who I think need to toughen up, though I'm unsure as to whether corporal punishment, even if applied consistently and without extreme force, would give them that thick skin we'd like to see more often in society.
