Do you agree with this guy or do you think he is a douchebag

Someone did not understand a word he used in a conversation so they asked and he said to them "I am not going to explain it or tell you what it means, go look it up on the computer or in a dictionary and educate yourself!" and then later went on to say "I really don't want to rub it in but he can go look it up for himself."

This is not my personal situation but a conversation that went on between two other people. I am not worried about it but just wondered what others thought of this kind of behaviour.

He is a douchebag. 21
A douchebag is too strong of a word for him but he is in the wrong for sure. 9
He is not a douchebag. I agree with him. 5

He's the IRL version of "Let Me Google That for you".

It depends. Some people/situations warrant that type of response.

    • Not in this case. If someone does not understand something you tell them what the word means.

No, not always. I can think of a lot of exceptions.

        • Hmmmm.... Like what? And if you do not tell a person something it does not mean you act like a douche.

If they're interrupting. Interjecting at an inappropriate time. If they are disrupting a conversation, group, class, lecture, speech or presentation (even informal ones). If they are causing the whole group to be held back over it. If they're asking questions that would be considered prerequisite knowledge given the situation...or just real basic knowledge in general. If they're asking questions that don't matter to the situation at hand. If they ask first before even attempting to discover on their own. If they don't listen (ignoring context clues or have a history of not listening when told something). And what is the history of these 2 people? Maybe one got tired of the other's crap. Maybe question boy acted like a smarty-pants before and deserved a smackdown.

"And if you do not tell a person something it does not mean you act like a douche."

Um, ok. You just answered your own question then. I agree, it depends on WHY they responded that way.

I feel I would need a little more context to judge properly, but based on the limited information here, I'm gonna have to go with douchebag.

I am sure he did not know himself what he had said.

I'd it normal that I want to know what the word was?

Yeah, I don't know why OP won't tell us what the word was.
