Do we need a new set of pronouns for new genders?

In English, we use he and him to refer to males, she and her to refer to females. What about people who don't quite fit in those classifications for whatever reason? Should we add new pronouns like Hesha and hirm?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • Not at all, people need to accept the cards they were dealt. What are we doing for midgets that only wish to play in the NBA? They have needs too. And don't call them short they don't like it.

  • I don't think so I think all the dividing and categorizing of people isn't helpful or inclusive. It doesn't make sense to divide everyone just to include them why not just include them to begin with. If anything we should get rid of gender specific pronouns and not worry about this problem thats not a problem anymore.

  • we need more pronouns for more people, like some get triggered after saying the wrong pronouns, like mine, everyone gets it wrong for some reason (jamal/jamalself)

  • No, it's going to stay HIM and HER, and thats the way it's going to be. We dont need to create new pronouns for a minority.

If you want to, thats fine. But for me, theres only him and her.

  • At minimum, we should respect what pronouns people want to use.

        • That's not a very strong argument. I know people that are... "confused," they say they feel like the other gender and then sometimes represent themselves that way and sometimes the other, I don't feel like it's my job to guess which pronoun they are "feeling like" on any given day. For better or worse our culture has evolved with binary gender terminology, I will do what I can to not blatantly offend someone but I'm not going to try to guess what they want to be called if they're wearing a dress and have a beard.

I think this whole transgender issue is going to cause a cultural rift in the next 10-20 years and it's going to be interesting to see how it plays out, I just wish I could watch it from the sideline and not be on the field while it's happening.

        • Maybe because no matter what you say, reality doesn't change. So its lying.
