  • Criminals will get guns whether it's legal or not. And I believe in the right to defend oneself. School shootings kill a lot less kids than fucking car crashes so why don't we regulate that first? American schools are suuuuuper safe.

    • You have a siege mentality. A defensive and paranoid attitude that others are hostile and you need a gun to protect yourself. When millions of people walk around armed in such an environment its just a disaster waiting to happen.

In the USA there were 434 mass shootings in 2019. This averaged 1.19 mass shootings per day. In these shootings, 1,643 people were injured and 517 died, for a total of 2,160 victims. On top of this there are 22000 gun suicides every year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mass_shootings_in_the_United_States_in_2019

If you cannot see the link between guns and violence you are delusional. No other way to put it. Its a self perpetuating and reinforcing cycle of violence. Where I live there was not a single shooting in 2019 because the large majority of people do not have guns and do not live with a siege mentality. Many other countries are gun violence free. Look outside the toxic bubble you are living in.

Criminals will always have weapons but they are a minority. The more people who drop the weapons the safer your community will be. I would rather be dead than live in such a state of fear. For you its just normal. The USA goes on and on about freedom. The way you live is not free.

As far as car related deaths go, thats another issue and there is no reason why more than one issue cannot be worked on simultaneously. You seem to be saying that because there is issue B therefore issue A cannot be looked at. Its a fallacy. Just really a deflection away from the problem being discussed ie gun violence.

      • I think it's more defensive and paranoid to rid people of their firearms because you fear that they will kill you. Regardless, it's not the wild west, the vast majority of legal firearm owners do not commit crimes.

Sure, there's a connection between crime and firearms because firearms are the current meta, without firearms there would be a new meta but we both know criminals aren't going to just not have guns if legal owners don't.

Where I live we don't have guns (other than farmers) but our knife crime is through the roof, even beating New York's murder rate for a period of time. If your view here is that you're safe from crime just because guns aren't a part of that crime then you're mistaken.

Criminals will always have guns and they're the minority. With your view on this you're instantly taking away the guns of people that wouldn't harm you and giving criminals that would hurt you a far less risk factor for committing a crime. Not only this but I can't help but feel like you're ignoring people that live in rural areas. Do you know how long they'd have to wait for cops to arrive at their area to stop a crime? Too long, the criminal will be long gone. Throw that dude a gun and his rural area home isn't so easy-pickin's.

The reason why bringing cars into this topic is important is because it tests your principles on the topic. If you're willing to take away the property of law-abiding citizens to prevent deaths then you also have to be willing to give up what you have if it also prevents deaths, otherwise it exposes your principles on the topic as weak.

          • I gave you an example of a country that doesn't have guns like the US yet have a high murder rates with other means. I literally already addressed your reply within my initial reply you replied to.
