It has everything to do with upbringing..if you've ever met a girl who was raised mostly by a masculine influence, they are not exactly "manly" just more neutral - in the way they speak, act, etc. - than the average girl. They are devoid of the (sometimes very subtle) "cutesy" mannerisms that many girls are taught.
