Did you actually witness the event, or is your understanding of what happened based on what you've read somewhere about what MAGA-guy claimed to have happened? Think about it: if you wanted to remove a baseball cap from someone's head, would you hit the guy upside the head or would you just grab or flick the bill of the cap?
Even if the cap was removed by sorta slapping the back of the Trumper's head, a punch in the face was a disproportionate response.
Clearly Guy 1 was in the wrong. People have the right to wear badges that proclaim they're a gullible fool if they want, and the civilised response to that is to ignore them.
