Do i have ocd?

I guess you can skip to the bottom for my question, but it's a little rude you know. Go ahead whatever, I'll be in my room.

So I've actually had weird compulsions since elementary school, and I'm now a cool college kid. When I was young I'd sometimes blink super often or until it felt right ya know? And later on in life I stretched my neck, especially when I was angry. It hurt at times but I felt like I needed to do it. Also, when I'm on the computer I feel the need to press certain keys and especially the mouse until it feels right. Which is annoying because sometimes I close tabs, cause the computer to perform some function that I don't know how to undo, or I mess up my sucessful Overwatch match that I'm in. A few years ago, I started bending my fingers. Just putting my hand into a fist sort of, but now my pointer fingers crack when I do it, and if I overdo it it hurts a bit. And not to mention when I'm trying to take notes in class I have to stop at times to do it. Oh also, I've always cleared my throat when I'm nervous and when going to sleep most nights. I have a lot of breathing fears, but that's irrelevant. I know for a fact there are other things I do, but those are the ones that really annoy me.

Basically, what I'm asking is that I feel like it is possible symptoms of OCD, but I don't really have any intrusive thoughts. Unless when I'm really anxious I just repeat me saying that I have myself but who doesn't? Guys...? And I guess I have thoughts that may be a bit intrusive, but probably not more than a regular person.

So what I'm ACTUALLY asking is can I have OCD without having intrusive thoughts?

Apparently everyone has ocd. (I've been clinically diagnosed with intrusive thought ocd, and have to take meds for it.) I remember one session where my psychiatrist said something like "everyone has ocd, most people just have it to lesser degrees." I think everyone has these little "ocd" things, but it's when they take up a substantial amount of your time each day, and cause you distress, that it's considered clinical ocd. If I remember correctly then I think it's if it takes up at least one hour a day of you exhibiting the symptoms for it to count as proper ocd.

Also do you sort of "have to" do those behaviours or not? You could just be in habits, but if there's something "making" you do those behaviours, or you'll feel a lot of distress, then I imagine that in itself would be an intrusive thought. I'm sorry for not being more specific, but one thing I do properly remember is that ocd is A LOT broader than the stereotypical view of it. You could well be exhibiting symptoms. Also if you do get diagnosed with ocd then I find fluoxetine works really well.

I think that this is not the right place to ask this question.

Saying only a doctor can diagnose it isn't snarky. It's stating a fact.

Can you update us on how this is going dude? I'd be quite interested to see if you end up with a diagnosis or not.

    • I think the next time I go to the doctor or my therapist I’ll ask them about it.

I sometimes need to touch all of the buttons of the controller I'm holding or also, like you said, touch all the keys or buttons on my mouse or keyboard, till it feels right.

Or like drag my hand across my face because it needs to be... even?

Don't think it's that annoying myself but you can go see a doctor.

Congratulations, you're a human with human behaviours. That's not OCD.
