Do i have a big family?

To be clear about this even I am not one hundred percent knowledgeable on the subject but to put it simply.

My grandfather got around a lot and had a lot of kids meaning I have a lot of uncles and aunts(many of them even being around my age range)that was all the way until he died(I didn't even know old people could still reproduce like he did)

His kids went on to have many kids themselves my mother having seven kids and I have a lot of cousins.

I couldn't give a clear number but I would say the ones I grew up with(uncles aunts and cousins) would be around 26(uncles) 29(aunts) and for cousins about 56 and these are the ones I only know personally I have other ones out there I am not aware of.

That's just on my mothers side as for my fathers it's a bit less he only has two siblings and his parents never got around like my mothers parents(my moms mom got remarried six times and had kids from each one)

Is this a big family or is it not as uncommon?

    That is one big family :P I have fourteen immediate family members including grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and siblings.

    24 living family members I can think of, only close with about 6 of them though (parents, grandparents, sibling, cousin)

    Back in the day large families were notmal but in this day and age large families are rare because of the expense. Maybe farming families are bigger as they need more help on the farm especially as the parents age.
