Do handshakes make you anxious?

Whether spontaneous or if you know it's coming, do you get intensly anxious at the moment you extend your hand out for the handshake?

Comment! Are you nervous about your half of the handshake or are you nervous about the other person (holding on too long, etc)? Or both? What are you anxious about?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • No, I actually like shaking people's hands. I love the surprised reaction I get when I give a really firm handshake to someone (in American culture, firm handshakes are associated with masculinity).

  • Anyone that has been an IIN member for any length of time knows to be leery of a handshake. Anything and a bit of everything could be on those hands.

  • It's when you reach for a hand shake and they wanna do the while slide hand into fist bump kinda thing or just the knuckle bump always gets me. Some people shake hands some people fist bump. Idk only if it gets awkward.

  • When I shake the hand of a fellow man it feels natural as I have been doing it my whole life. I usually greet and part with friends using a handshake.

It does feel strange to shake a woman's hand. I never know how firm I should be.

  • When I first meet someone I get nervous, and when I'm nervous my palms start to sweat! So when they extend their hand out for a shake my palms get sweatier and I have to wipe them >.< If only the custom was to hug strangers x3 lol

  • I think that there is nothing nicer than two male friends shaking hands. My husband is a biker and shakes hands with friends all the time. Men rarely make physical contact with each other - so I think it's sweet.

  • Always! I hate I'm trying to relax and all of a sudden someone randomly extends their hand to me. It's so fucking awkward. What if I use the wrong hand? What if I don't shake with force and come off looking like a masochist and vice versa? What if I forgot to put stuff on my hands and they're cracked and dry? I could go on and on and on with this, but I don't think I have enough stamina.
