My mom, dad and a couple family friends of their said all girls want a guy with career ambition (usually going to college) and a potential to make a lot of money? Is this true for all girls, or just those who want long term relationships, or what?

Girls, probably not. Women, more likely. But in all honesty, it's more about your maturity level. Can you run a household and all that. But if so, make sure your partner can as well. Only gold digging, lazy, childish types will want you for your money. Or they plan on having a few kids with the financial stability.
Either way, who cares? What do you think? That's what matters. If a girl thinks differently then they've lost you as much as you've lost them. They're not fucking goddesses that men have to bow down to their every desire just so that they'll agree to be our girlfriends. They need us as much as we need them.
Personally I'm ambitious. I dont want to reach my career goals only for my man to working retail with no ambition for better. Would be a major turn off.
I only wanted cool, relatable boyfriends when I was young. I didn’t have the self esteem to be a gold digger. And I don’t mean that in a bad way. Gold isn’t just money, could be the whole package. Good character too. But now I can’t imagine having a mate. Too much work, not worth it, too old, too tired now. I bet it depends on the girl and her values. What is rich to one might not be rich to another. What is enough? What lifestyle does she want, and does she want that guy to also spend time at home? Smart girl will know herself and her values and want a guy who fits that, and hopefully he also knows himself and his values.
Not necessarily. Some marry rich, older men who specifically have very little future. As little future as possible.

I'm only attracted to men with ambition and future plans. Why would you want anything else? Some lazy bum who sits on his ass and has NO aspirations in life like a big manchild, what's attractive about that? Maybe if you're a woman with no ambition yourself you'd settle for that.
Unambitious people don't necessarily have to be lazy bums. They may not care about a prestigious job title and making lots of money. They could be happy with their humble job and work hard at it. They may also have creative hobbies and keep a clean house. Even the ones that don't really like their job can have a good work ethic.
it really depends on the person. having ambition and stability can show that you're responsible, and being responsible is important, but it's really not universal and depends on the person. it is true that in a long term relationship it's good to have goals and stability because otherwise the relationship might be stressful, and if you're sharing your life with someone it's good to make sure that each person is doing equal amounts of work in maintaining stability in life. but again, nothing is universal and it really depends
