If free healthcare is the only holding out factor. you can get really affordable healthcare here. You just need to be a relatively healthy person.
Only reason why our goverment healthcare sucks is because the only people paying into it besides the goverment are the poor, or those who have such a high risk factor insuring them affordably is impossible.
If you are a regular dude (or dudette) you could probably get away with a 200> dollar a month healthcare insurance. Even in the event you get into a crash or something you would only have to put in maybe a grand or two into it. Which is far more affordable than a 50k hospital bill without it.
Honestly not that bad of a trade off when you get to keep most of your income from taxes.
That’s the thing, $2000 on top of your insurance sounds insane in the UK. For us everything except for medication is free, and even then medication is $13 (converted) per month, no matter how many you’re prescribed. I’m a teacher so I’d be too worried. Even if the chances of me being involved in an accident is low, the ‘what ifs’ keep me worrying.
also americans don’t include taxes while shopping. do you do the math before checking out or do you just keep some extra money on hand and guess? as someone who has the tax included in the price that seems stressful
Now taxes are the weird one, it's kinda an internal guesstimate you make when buying something, as sales tax is different in every state. Most is around 5% some states dont even have sales tax. Kinda just do that rough math in your head, you dont get surprised by taxes, just add 5+/-% to your purchase for a guess. Everyone pays by card so at least you arent penny pinching the exact change in money.
Other countries got to realize that america is a federation, 50 states with their own buisness and similar laws and taxes working together federally. It's more similar to the EU structure than an individual country. We just dont declare was on eachother (only happened like twice)
So our healthcare, education, taxes, and state buisness can very widly between states. Dont have to oversee greeces education board do you? Pretty much the same power as Texas has over california. Pretty much non existant besides complain. All we share is our founding documents and the joint acknowledgment that we are all apart of the federal decisionmaking. Which is also why our 3 branches and elections look so messed up in comparison to simpler countries. Because it is. States are more powerful than the individual but the individual decides who runs the state. Dont like how your state runs the show, elect someone else or move.
Do Americans really not put butter on their sandwiches?
