I am not a US citizens and I get the feeling that indeed you are scared of being attacked, you have the feeling that the whole world hates you, you love violence and the media is greatly to blame for this.
However I'm giving a general view. From the outside this is the image that you project (through your films, documentaries etc... However I don't live there so I don't know.
That's media right there, never trust media above an actual experience.
Not everyone in America has guns, what you think is America is actually the percentage in the south mid-west. Texas, Tennessee, etc.
In fact from how I see it, most people get guns just to say they have one. What's more impressive than saying 'don't worry I have a gun.'I mean chances are you're not going to even pick it up unless you actually live in a dangerous neighborhood.
