Intoothandclaw touched on the base of this entire problem(Arizonan advocating to push the recently passed cancer-only use into a more California-esque legalized use), which is the Federal government's drug scheduling system. The mere fact that some drugs(ALCOHOL!) are legalized, despite extensive research suggesting they are both less valueable to the government and more dangerous to users suggests that the US is too focused on minor issues as a normal(no pun towards the site intended haha). Weed is only ever considered a gateway drug because of it's legal status and not it's effects, which are not comparable to any other illegal or monitored substance, outside of the whole "spice" deal, which is actually the only other popularly used cannaboid. Weed should be as legal as alcohol, and alcohol should be more legal.
