    For Christmas, a stranger I've never met, and who I know nothing about, not even their first name, what they look like, where they live, how old they are, or even what gender they are, bought me the most expensive present anyone has ever bought me (by some margin) and also the present best suited to me of those I've received in my lifetime, despite them knowing virtually nothing about me.

    Although what happened could be seen as charity and it's the first time in my life I've been the recipient of charity as opposed to the donor (a fact that could be seen as a concern that my life isn't heading in the specified direction for lives to go in), I was so overjoyed by unexpected generosity when I opened the present on Christmas Day, that the afterglow of care was still with me on New Year's Eve when I was up a small mountain, looking down into the valley in which I and millions of others were born and where, even then, they were celebrating, unaware I was watching them all in their millions and both smiling at being able to see them all in one eyeblink and crying at the distance it required to do so.

    My now ex-girlfriend decided that she was lesbian over Christmas/New Years, and that she had been trying and failing to deceive herself throughout most of our relationship.

    Was with my parents for dinner. Then my girlfriend and her parents came over. We greeted the new year together. Me and girlfriend went to a bar, got drunk, came back in the morning.
    Then I had a massive ear ache for 3 days. Damn cold that morning and no hat = ear ache.

    It was fun. I went to a small house party with my friends who I've not seen for six months. We caught up and had some drinks. I also got really drunk and snogged my ex, which was nice while it lasted. It was a good night all in all.
