Which people? The elderly and the immunocompromised? 500,000 of them dying isnt that big of a problem when you look at it from a governmental point of view.
By that I mean we are a country of 350+ million people a half million non working nor fighting capable persons deaths are bad but it's the least detrimental (to a functioning country) part of the population to die.
