Did yall get what you wanted for the holidays’?

What you wanted doesn't have to be tangible materialistic items, but it could be. Just want to know what yall wanted and whether or not you got it.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • Yes. My narcissistic aunt didn't come and ruin the day, and my nice aunt made her potato salad, and my anti vax aunt can't come visit cos of covi restrictions between states.

It's probably the most pleasant Christmas we ever had, even though I had a headache the entire day.

  • I didn't know what I wanted for Christmas, so I didn't ask for anything. In the end, I recieved a bunch of Amazon gift cards, some clothes, a Fire Emblem video game, and a Pidgeot plushie. I like the plushie the best.
    :)

    • First off - Happy Christmas!

My girlfriend bought me the game Cyberpunk 2077 on my Steam account. I thought it was hilarious, cause my computer doesn't cover the minimum specs.
On the plus side... when I buy a new computer, I will have a legal version of the game that will be patched and fixed, so that's nice. She was happy with her gift too.

I told my parents I didn't want any gifts as gifts are expensive and my mom and dad are pensioners. I said coming home and seeing them is the best gift for me and my dad making homemade "Babek" (Bulgarian delicacy). They agreed and they didn't get me any gifts... instead they paid the taxes for my cars for 2021. All of them! Told me they knew my business was shut down again and I was losing money, so they wanted to help out a little, as it's what parents do.

I didn't know how to react to this. It was a mix between very grateful, a bit angry and their act of kindness just supercharged my self hate. Felt like absolute trash for getting them small things they wanted from a few months back... (sowing stuff you can only get in Germany and a nice cutting board for my mom) and fancy Pike bait for my dad (Again not available in Bulgaria).

They were happy, but I wasn't. Man, I do not wish self hate on anyone... you'd think I'd be happy. But here I am well past midnight, again, in the living room, drinking whiskey and contemplating.

      • Happy New Year to you! I hope you enjoy your game.

It's best not to wallow in self hate. I did that a lot and all it did was create a wall of apathy and make me lose interest in everything. It sounds like your parents love you very much. 😊

      • Thats hilariously cute. a few years ago or more, my EX bought me 5 Nights at Freddy's but accidentally bought the PC download version off of steam (only had my mac at the time). Now that I have built my own PC, I COULD play it if I wanted to.

I know that feeling. thats why I don't allow myself to sit and contemplate, lest I drag myself into a sad state of depression.

        • Yeah... Christmas always does bring out the worst of my depression and self hate.
Parents getting older, feeling like you haven't done anything, even if you have.

On a more positive note - she knew I wanted the game, cause I watched trailers for it and stuff, but she never thought that a 7 year old laptop just won't do with the new games. Not to mention every new game seems to require at least 50-100GB of free space. You could fill up a hard drive with 6-7 AAA games.

Anyway, have a good night (or day, depending where you are)

          • Thanks! Its currently 10:50 pm here as I lie awake, unable to sleep knowing that I am going to my grandmothers house tomorrow to disconnect my grandfathers home office studio (finally!)

  • I wanted Kate Hudson, like usual. But as always, she's never under the tree on Christmas day.

  • I received a Slipknot hoodie and No.9 whiskey, I plan on drinking that on new years while jamming out to the whole IOWA album.

    • Rock on! I splurged and finally bought myself a sunburnt-ish left handed telecaster for myself.

  • Happy Christmas! I did - some adorable merch of videogames I like, a great quality headset, some extremely useful practical presents, snacks, vodka, and money! My family know me very well!
Unfortunately, despite planning ahead, some of my family's presents haven't arrived yet. Damnit! Thankfully they know about the post situation and don't mind waiting.

    • I was also gifted the wonderful headset. My parents know nothing about gaming, but did some research to get me a top rated one.

I often find myself hoarding gifts throughout the year as I see them fit.

  • The Occulus VR headset we got for my daughter surprised her and she's very happy with it, so that counts as a win in my book.

She's never expressed any interest in having one, but it appeared as a suggestion on my Amazon page a few weeks ago, and I thought it looked interesting.

Also, we didn't spend Christmas with my mother-in-law for the first time in thirteen years, so that was very good too.

It isn't really a Christmas present, but we're due to get a new car in less than two weeks, and I've realised that I'm feeling a little like I did when I was a kid and Christmas was approaching. Cars have never thrilled me, but it will replace one I've had for nearly twenty years and it will be the best car by far that I've ever owned.

    • I say the best gifts are the ones you get for yourself, unless its love. Then thats nice to receive from others

  • I wanted to get through today without feeling depressed. I slept through half of it and only am just starting on cleaning up but no depression!

      • Yes but now my apartment is clean and organized

Now I'm just gonna relax, find free hard furniture on craigslist, and maybe try cooking some lamb chops

          • I gussied up a nice sandwich and fancy ramen with the purple Doritos instead. I figure I'll save the big stuff for during the day

Prime rib sounds good, any juicy details on it haha

  • I got a bicycle, which I rode excitedly around in circles in the livingroom until I accidentally ran into grandma. She fell down the stairs, suffered a serious head injury and died in the hospital this morning.

  • My folks gave me a big bottle of Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum, and a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream.

I'm grateful for the booze, but I still want a new Fitbit Sense smartwatch!

    • My parents would never give me rum, suspecting I might have a problem with it.

      • Well, my mother gave my dad a bottle of rum too. I am 51 years old so if I was gonna have a problem with alcohol it surely would have presented itself by now. I seem to have inherited my father's taste in food, and drink though. My mother prefers Scotch.

  • Yes, though I still have a couple of more family Christmases to go to (we have a big family)!

I recently purchased my first home, and got lots of stuff for it for Christmas! Lots of dishes, silverware and cookware, a nice TV, some towels, etc. I also have family wanting to give me a bunch of furniture they are looking to upgrade from or have had in storage, so that is exciting!

      • It is definitely nice when you can get some for free or cheap! Plus, if it's something with upholstery on it, you can always reupholster it to your liking!
