Did i overreact?

I went to a fashion event with my friend today, it was our big reunion as she just moved back into town. This friend is really flaky and the last time we tried to meet she stood me upand turned off her phone. Anyway today, everything was going great then she met some guys from her home country and then they started talking up a storm, I could not even join in the conversation because they were talking in another language, laughing, sneaking off to grab coffee and whatever whilst I sat there in my phone looking stupid.

I thought she would, at some point, say to them ah it was nice meeting you guys see you around because this was supposed to be our day. So basically for remainder of the day she was enjoying time with these guys and I was nonexistent. I just reached boiling point were I was like you know what I'm going home then she begged me to stay, we walked to the subway and they were all speaking in another language so in the end I just hugged her bye and stormed off, visibly upset.

No, you did not overreact. This was supposed to be your day and she ignores you to speak another language with people she just met? They weren't even family or anyone important to her. Then she just continued to talk to them and ignore you, she didn't even introduce you and have you join the conversation, I'm sure these people must've known a little English. And she sneaks off to get coffee without having you join them? You should not have hugged her and stormed off, you should've just stormed off. Actually you should've told her that she needs to knock that shit off she pulled, and then stormed off letting her think about it.

Deliberately putting up a language barrier is extremely rude of her. It sounds like this girl is making very little effort to maintain your friendship and doesn't value you, I'd let her slip away if I were you.

I once left a situation where the person was ignoring me without even saying goodbye.

  • Your reaction was just fine. That's really shitty of your friend to behave like that.
