Did humans evolve with the toothbrush?

The first men, like the homo sapiens, they did not have to brush their teeth, none of the animals need to clean their mouth/teeth, so how come humans do? Is it something we evolved with? We brush our teeth every day (most of the people), is that the reason why we are obligated to brush our teeth if we don't want them to rot?

Yes, humans did 11
No, humans didn't 28
Maybe 15
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

It is our food that ''evolved''... we don't eat as organic things as we used to before factory produced snacks full of preservatives and sugars, starches, acids, etc.

    Have you seen dogs teeth?
They are perfectly white, strong and healthy (generally)

If we ate meat, fish, and fruits and vegetables all day everyday, plus drinking clear water. Pretty sure our teeth would not fall out or decay as much over our lifetime.

Says me, whilst having a smoke, drinking coke and thinking of getting a chocky bar!
Arghhh the fruits of our modern life :)

  • Basically what Shrunk said. With every new development comes a downside.

Real human toothbrush evolution came when the first of our kind secretly put one in a toilet and back where he found it.

    We are still homo sapiens.

We just learned that if we keep them clean they won't fall out as fast.

We live to a ripe old age of about 76 on average. I think that if most animals lived for that long, then their teeth would need a good brushing.
We eat lots of processed food that doesn't take much chewing, maybe our teeth have sort of devolved because of this

I secretly never brush or floss. Dentists get pissed off and repeatedly teach me how to floss, like I can't grasp the complicated notion of what to do with a string when it comes to cleaning teeth. I see a dentist only when forced to (sometimes years between visits) and I've never had a single problem with my teeth. :/
