Dating sucks for men, while women just pick and choose

  • "I’m not really sure what you think the difference is between men and women here."
In on-line dating, men are generally expected to make the first move.

"... or that a woman is going to get any more responses from men than a man with a similar quality of appearance is from women."
Female response is far more concentrated on the most attractive men, while male response is more evenly distributed.

    • The most popular dating app among women is the dating app that only allows women to make the first move.

Like I said, we’re going to have to agree to disagree. We are living in two completely different realities if you think male response is more evenly distributed than women.

      • That's https://bumble.com/ . The idea that only women can make the first move does make a lot of sense; it puts more efficiency into the process. But, your idea of equal distributions is indeed a different reality. It's also a hypothesis that can be tested by comparing the men's and women's distributions using a chi-square contingency table analysis. Statistics separates reality from delusion.

        • The app I was referring to is called Bumble. It was created by a woman who cofounded Tinder, and it only allows women to send the first message in heterosexual matches. It’s very popular among women, which shouldn’t be a surprise considering women are also much more likely to send the first message than men on apps where anybody is allowed to send the first message. There’s a fun statistic for you to separate reality from delusion. My personal favorite, though, has to be the combination of women taking significantly longer to send a first message and that first message being significantly longer than what men send. Imagine that, actually putting some thought and consideration into what you say and who you say it to as opposed to using the same one line over and over again. Really makes you wonder if the claim that women only care about appearance is a projection from guys who only care about appearance and think everybody is as shallow as them.

Either way, I guess you can decide for yourself which scenarios you’d rather be in:

A)you get 700 matches and 49 of them send a message that averages 12 characters. (For reference, “Hey whats up” is 12 characters with the lack of any punctuation whatsoever.)

          Or

B)you get 200 matches and 42 of them send a message that averages 122 characters. (“Hey, your dog is so cute! What’s its name? I have a six week old pitbull. Puppies are a lot of work, but they’re worth it!” is 122 characters.)

I definitely know which group I’d rather have. But, again, we can agree to disagree. Stay safe out there.

          • Talk me thru the case where you get 15 matches and receive zero messages. Hint. The bots kick in after about a week. Bots send men 12 character messages, like, "Do you like movies?". You'll prepare a thoughtful response of about 122 characters and get nothing back. About a week later, another 12 character zinger comes in. After you send a new 122 character response, same lack of a response. In week three, your third 122 character response is answered by another 12 character random question, followed by no response.

I don't understand your naive faith in this app. Maybe women just think your picture is cute. BTW, I posted a false picture of a very attractive guy to clarify my suspicions. The phone rang off the hook. Of course, I could never meet any of the women under my false pretenses, but I did make several interesting pen pals.
