After the civil war there was a gradual shift between Democrats and Republicans, where they basically swapped views. For that to work, the Ku Klux Klan, which was founded in 1865, would’ve had to been created by Democrats.
However, since the parties switched, the Democrats at the time became the Republican party AFTER the KKK was formed. That means that the Ku Klux Klan would be considered a Republican organization today. If you don’t believe that, Donald Trump, who it goes without saying is a Republican candidate, was also supported by the KKK.
David Duke was a former grand wizard of the KKK, and he tweeted “Trump & Tucker is the only way to stop the commie Bolsheviks! It is the only path to beat them! #TrumpTucker2020”.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that Trump himself agrees with the KKK, but it’s undeniable evidence that they are Republicans.
I’m not sure where you found out that the KKK is a Democrat Organization (probably social media…) but you should do your own research next time. Have a nice day!
The stances of political parties on particular issues can change over time. Trying to score points and "own the libs" by pointing out the historically correct fact that the majority of early members of the KKK were Democrats is as silly as claiming that the Nazis were socialists simply because that word was in the party's official name.
I doubt if many of those who trot out the "KKK was founded by Democrats" trope have much understanding of the shift on racial discrimination issues within the Democratic Party which began during the Kennedy administration and continued with serious changes taking place during Johnson's presidency.
I'm sure that few of them will have even heard of the Republican Party's "southern strategy" during the Nixon administration which was specifically designed to attract white southern voters who had previously voted Democrat, but hated civil rights legislation (in other words, white racists).
It flies in the face of reality to suggest that, just because the KKK's founders and early members were Democrats, that means that it's still an organisation that is Democratic in modern, party-political terms. The fact is that the ethos of the KKK appeals to those who are reactionary and stuck in a mindset that idealises some mythical past, and the modern political party which most appeals to such people is the Republican/Trumpist Party.
Of course yall are gonna bring Trump into this but ignore Biden being a segregationist in the 70s. He was a senator from Delaware he fought tirelessly to avoid intergrating black kids in schools because he "didnt want his kids to grow up in a racial jungle".
Also speaking of Nixon didnt his personal friend Martin Luther King go on record many times supporting Nixon for all he did for black civil rights? You do realize Nixon did alot for civil rights dont you? And this is a time when Democrats like Biden were fighting against black integration, Biden would come in a few years later and fight integration. I can send you sources for this. Also even in the 90s it was Biden who wrote the crime bill that gave blacks longer sentences for the same drugs.
I do not want to try to be disrespectful you seem like a smart guy but I believe you are attempting to rewrite history abit. The democrats have historically been racist and they created the KKK. Also the south was starting to vote more Republican in the 20s far before the civil rights movement. And even with the civil rights bill the vast majority of republicans voted for it. The fact is the country changed.
I grew up right next to the home of the KKK. It was started by Nathan Bedford Forrest who was a legendary confederate general. He was part of the democrat party. The confederates were democrats and the democrats started the KKK.
You can say some grand wizard nerd endorsed Trump but its different because there isnt literally republican congress and senators that are in the KKK. There was many many congress, governors, senators, and 5 PRESIDENTS that were openly KKK and they were ALL democrats.
And btw the parties actually never switched thats a myth. After the civil rights movement only 2 congressmen switched parties. Take Biden for example he is still a democrat, he was a segregationist in the 70s. He was never a republican.
