Cousin shoplifts, thinks he won't get caught

Whenever I'm at store with my cousin, he always shoplifts little things such as ketchup, candy, cans of ravioli, box of ibuprofen, etc., but it's usually only a couple things at a time. He says that he never gets caught. I tell him how one of these times, an alarm will go off when walking out the door, and there are cameras all over the store. But he never gets caught. I tell him he will eventually, am I right? I just don't want to see my cousin get in trouble, and me too if I'm with him when he gets caught. Will he if he doesn't stop?

He knows it's wrong, he knows there's a risk of being caught, but since he hasn't yet been caught, he believes he never will. Typical juvenile stupidity.

Definitely keep far away from this guy when he goes looking for five-finger discounts.

You can't cure thrill-seeking idiocy. All you can do is try to make sure it doesn't affect you.

    • Yeh. How come an alarm doesn't go off when he goes out the door, or he's not seen on the cameras? I thought those cameras now can view every inch of the store.

My sister's boyfriend works Security for a retail store. They sometimes let the person keep stealing over the course of a few weeks or months. They keep records of everything they steal until the dollar amount is high enough. After that they catch the thief, call the cops, and the person is looking at significant jail time. That could be happening to your cousin right now. It's best not to go shopping with him. No point in going down with him.

He'll get caught eventually. And they could charge you if they think your acting as a lookout. Even if your not, they could still charge you. And they're betting you won't hire an expensive lawyer for such a minor charge. And they won't give you a court appointed one on a charge that minor. That's the way the law works. If I were you, I wouldn't go into any store with him.

If he's stupid enough to ignore you, all you can do is stay away from him in a store.

The more he does it, the more he'll feel untouchable, and start going for bigger things. Then, he's going to get nailed, arrested, and in trouble. Will have had it coming.

    • Yeh, once he moves up to stealing liquor, the law really takes that shit seriously I'm sure. I don't think he'll go that far, but I'll still stay far from him in stores just to be safe.

  • Depending on his age, he won’t feel so cool when he gets caught. Some store owners will call the cops and they’ll call his parents from the local jail. It can get ugly fast.

  • He'll likely be caught eventually. Worst of luck, you'll be with him.

Don't go to the store with his stupid ass, if you must, at least don't be in the same aisle as him.

Even if he says he's not going to be shoplifting to convince you to go with him at some point, he might still swipe something just for the heck of it.

Your cousin is a thief after all, why not a liar as well?

It's funny when those assholes get caught. I laugh at those people when they're caught.
