To be clear I'm not planning on doing it for the sake of enjoyment or to be mean to the kid. I figure he will taste one and not like it and then he simply won't want my son's snacks any longer (probably wondering why on earth my son likes them so much).
Or you could acknowledge the fact that he is a child, and while you would generally expect better behaviour from a five year old, there are several shitty adults in play here.
Including the ones who don't seem to realise the obvious solution is to bring a few distractions and snacks for the five year old, (which is still age appropriate) instead of being cruel to him purely because you don't like him or his mother.
