It's normal and they're talking about the length of time based on darkening the beans, low roast would be light brown, medium roast a medium-dark brown, it all depends how long they roast the beans, the longer it's roasted the darker it becomes. I prefer medium roast, dark roast doesn't taste so good. Rather than the more popular product though Greek and Turkish styles are addictive I just prefer Colombian roast, it's only found market fresh and not in the supermarket, if I can only get the ground soluble one I'll drink it.

Light roasts are typically roasted between 350°F–400°F (177°C–204°C) for around 10 minutes or less. Dark roasts are heated for closer to 15 minutes above 400°F (204°C).

Copied above from a quick google search.

Dark roast has less caffeine than light roast.

Ahh I didnt know that. When I said powerful I meant more the taste. I like the strong coffee taste but well deluded with milk.

pretty sure it refers to how black and bitter the coffee is. The darker the roast, the darker the color and more bitter the taste
