Choking on my pills????

I am preacribed adderrall for my ADD and i have been taking the two pills every day for over 2 years with no problems what so ever. But recently when i go to take ny medicine i will choke on it every morning and have to drink cups of water to get it down my throat. Other times i will take too big of a swallow( for lack of a better description) and my esophagus will litterally throb and feel as if it burst. IIN?? Whats going on or it just in my head?

Is It Normal?

  • chokinh on pills is not normal. Just because you triggered the swallow does not mean that the pills made it safely to the esophagus. As a Speech Language Pathologist who specializes in swallowing disorders, I have seen many pills stuck in people's throat/pharyngeal area and yes it can be life-threatening. If you frequently choke on pills or can not swallow them easily, ask your doctor for a referral to a Speech Language Pathologist who specializes in swallowing disorders.

  • I usually take 15 to 20 extasy tablets before breakfast most mornings - I find vodka helps them go down quite smoothly !

  • My grandma is a nurse and she always says to always eat after taking a pill and look down not up

  • Try looking down. Most think that you should tilt your head back but that actually closes your throat. I have the same problem. Try drinking something besides water and eat something right after you swallow the pills...it will help force them down.

  • Try tilting your head back while swallowing. Also try it with jello or apple sauce instead of water. It's how I learned how to take pills.
